Project Proposal:

I have made a lot of progress and achievements through the first

12 units of this qualification, these include research skills, organisation skills, and much more. Research skills I have learned that will benefit my final major project include Primary Research, Secondary Research and experimental research. I often spend a lot of time researching secondary research but have found that primary and experimental are equally as important for my work and helping me to gain more ideas and understanding on my topic. I find organisation really important as I like to know when I should have certain stages completed by. For example, it benefits me to have a set time for filming to ensure that I have enough time to edit in case of any problems and leaving time for extra filming should I need it. I also find it really helpful to know what equipment I will need before I need to film, this is where experimental research helps me out as I can work with different equipment to find which works best for the overall outcome that I'm wanting. Cinematography for me is very important because a lot of my work is music videos and for that I really need to focus on the cinematography. I need to have a range of shots and angles and without a good understanding of cinematography, this can be difficult.

Project Concept:

For my final major project, I am going to make a music  video as I feel like this is where my strengths and interests are in visual effects and animation. I have a few ideas for the theme of the music video including mental health and live footage. I think that a mental health theme could be interesting to produce by using my own experience as well as researching other peoples to educate the viewers around the subject. The target audience is going to be teenagers from 15-19 year old as from my initial research, I found that this age range was people that were most effected my mental health, on average. For characterization, I think that dark scenes would best suit the theme maybe with some neon lighting to contrast the darkness, in my research I could find a message as to why there is neon lighting in the video. Initially I thought that it could be interesting to have a full cast of female characters as this is very uncommon in the music industry, however after thinking about this, I have decided that it would be a good idea to also have male characters and there is still a large stigma around male mental health and I think that it could be very effective to include this. Practitioners that have influenced my ideas include James Lynd who is a videographer who filmed ‘Bronnie – Danced with the Devil’. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NREdlqpOf4 Another practitioner is Tim Mattia who directed ‘The 1975 Robbers’. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iyy3YOpxL2k

For the narrative, I would like some montage scenes to reference my previous projects and think that it would be really interesting to begin research around slow motion scenes. I think that a slow motion driving/running scene could be effective in this music video. The soundtracks that I have considered so far include; Pale waves- Eighteen/Noises The 1975- Me & You Together song/ frail state of mind, However when researching, I could find some soundtracks that fit my ideas and plan better.

Evaluation:

When evaluating, I am going to make sure to pick out the things that I think have gone well with my project (as I go and after completing) and also the things that didn’t go as well or as planned. When picking out the things that didn’t go as planned, I am also going to make sure that I understand why they didn’t by researching, this way I will be able to correct my mistakes and be able to include the fixed version into my work, or depending on timing, will know for the future what went wrong and how to make it better .By doing this I think that it will really improve my understanding of my work and instead of not knowing how to do something or why it went wrong, I will know why and be able to use/do it correctly in the future. I'm going to record my decision making by making hand-written notes during my research, I personally find this really helpful  to do as I am researching and then type it up onto my website in my own time, this way I can make the most of my time and can document everything that I am doing as I go along.
