The 1975- Somebody else

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bimd2nZirT4

This music video was produced by George Daniel, Matthew Healy and Mike Crossey. The music video starts off as very dark and even in black and white but eventually brings in neon colours in signs and when you see Matty going into the bar and on the stage. I especially like the lighting when Matty is sitting in the car with the blue tint to the shot because it adds a good contrast from the background and onto Matty and shows a lot of emotion and feeling from the song. This is a good for my music video plan as in the questionnaire, the most voted for regarding lighting was both a dark theme and neon and i think that this music video is a good example of interpreting both of those. Personally i find the mix of lighting styles extremely aesthetically pleasing and think that it gives a unique kind of element to the music video without being overpowering, the lighting changes aren't too in your face, instead they change throughout the video over time, ultimately making the transition seamless.

Maggie Lindemann- Would I

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2syrTDayGk

This music video was directed by Kajal and Produced by Roxy Shih. I really like the cinematography in this music video as there is a range of different shots that work together really well. For example, there are a lot of close ups and mid- shots but also some from the side and in large groups. The use of close ups to show emotion really stands out throughout this music video and gives you more of an idea to the context behind it. This is relevant to my idea because I really want to capture a lot of emotion from this music video and I would hope that the cinematography would really stand out and help to carry the story out. When I was analysing my survey results, 87.50% of the responses said that they thought that close up shots gave a video more emotion and feeling, 12.50% said that medium close ups gave a video emotion and feeling. From these results, I think that this music video will really benefit my research as I am investigating how they do this. In this music video, I find that the close ups are on the characters faces where they are looking physically upset or uncomfortable. I think that facial expressions and camera angles really work well together to make an emotive narrative.

Jesy Nelson 'Odd one out'

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p07lsr4d/jesy-nelson-odd-one-out

This documentary was made my BBC about the Little Mix star Jesy Nelson's journey with mental health and online trolling. It is very emotional and includes really raw footage that makes the documentary very emotional and really puts you in her position, making you really think about how she is feeling at what she must have gone through. I really respect the way that this was filmed as it had a lot of montage shots of her life, showing that online and to the outside world she seemed completely fine but really she was dealing with so much and this is something that I would like to capture in my music video, showing that just because someone looks happy, doesn't mean that they are and I think that this is a really good example of this.
